1961 Profile: Jack Stroud

Guard
No. 66
Tennessee
"A far-ranging blocking guard is Jack Stroud, a 1960 All-Pro who has the speed to remain well ahead of the ball carrier. Combative and tireless, he has insisted on playing when below physical par. He didn't develop until his fifth year as a pro and is now at peak form."

-1961 Pro Football Handbook

"A man who is finally appreciated is the Giants' Jack Stroud. All-out effort made Jack an All-Pro. He came to the Giants as a 205-pound tackle. Realizing he needed more bulk, he immediately went into an intensive body-building program through weights, and now he is one of the most impressive specimens in the league, a solid 235.
Injuries to his knees have hampered the 32-year-old veteran during his eight seasons with New York, but in '59 and '60 he operated at full speed with drastic results to the opposition. At times, because of his strength, he's also part of the goal-line stand unit."

-Murray Olderman, Sports All-Stars 1961 Pro Football

"Jack came out of Tennessee as a 200-pound tackle in 1951, but two years in the Army delayed his appearance as a Giant until 1953. He literally built himself into All-Pro stature. A bar-bell addict, he has tacked on more than 35 pounds to display one of the finer physiques in a league of behemoths.
He's one of the sharpest blockers in the game, a student of line play. Slowed by leg injuries in 1957 and 1958, he came back strong in 1959 and 1960 to win All-Pro honors."

-1961 Fleer No. 70

"Jack Stroud (66), now in his ninth year with the Giants, has been a mainstay of the offensive line since 1953. There are few better running guards in the business and, although relatively light at 235 pounds, he also does a bang-up job at tackle.
Handicapped by knee injuries in 1957 and 1958, Jack made a complete recovery and had peak years in 1959 and 1960. He won an All-America rating at Tennessee."
