1959 Profile: Tom Scott

Linebacker
No. 82
Virginia
"Tom is rated among the best ends in the South. The Cavalier flankman is glue-fingered on passes and a defensive ace. This is his junior year."

-1951 Topps Magic No. 7

"'Scottie' continues to sparkle in the N.F.L. as left defensive end for the Eagles. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams for the 1953 season but secured by the Eagles prior to the opening of the season. He took over at left end and has played every game. Scott teams with Norman (Wild Man) Willey to give the Eagles the finest defensive ends in the league.
Named an All-American (1952) at Virginia, Tom is married and the father of a boy."

-1955 Bowman No. 105

"When 'Scottie' is playing, it's like having a 'No Trespassing' sign posted. Seldom does an enemy expect to gain around his end.
Scottie never gets faked out of position or 'sucked in' allowing ball carriers to scat around him. He's rough on interference, prying apart to get a shot at the runner. By teaming Scottie with Norm Willey, the Eagles have closed off both ends to enemy traffic."

-1956 Topps No. 112

"When a quarterback fades to pass, there's nothing more discouraging than to look up and see huge Tom about to strike. He has great power and speed and by combining both, Tom has become one of the finest defensive ends in the business. Opponents claim he's one of the hardest tacklers in the league.
Tom was an All-American in football at Virginia. Since 1953 he hasn't missed a single minute of play, much to his opponent's discomfort."

-1957 Topps No. 25

"Defensive linemen are professional football's most anonymous, though rugged, performers. Scott, who toils at defensive end for the Eagles is one the toughest customers in the league.
He breaks up the opposing team's attempt to sweep the flank, drops back on pass defense and rushes the passer. In blocking, his good size makes him difficult to take out of a play."

-1958 Topps No. 125
