1961 Profile: Rosey Grier

"Another gem in the Giant line is six-foot five-inch, 285-pound Rosey Grier. Now in his sixth season, this mass of steel-like muscle wasted no time catching the attention of his coaches or his teammates. His play was instrumental in bringing the Giants two Eastern Conference titles in a row, in 1958 and 1959.
While at Penn State, Rosey not only proved himself an outstanding lineman but also starred in track as a shot putter. His presence assures the New Yorkers of consistently being in the championship race."

"Rosey is one of the most devastating linemen in football. He's the kind that keeps a club loose. He's very fast and agile but periodically the Giants have problems keeping his weight in check.
In college he put his size to use throwing the shotput, once winning the NCAA title. The Giant from Jersey has been a league standout ever since he came to the club in 1955 as the No. 3 draft choice."

-1961 Fleer No. 77

"With one season out for military service, big Rosey Grier (76) has been a Giant mainstay, at right tackle, since 1955. Although his 6-foot-5-inch frame is generously padded with 280 pounds, he is as quick as a cat on his feet.
At Penn State, Rosy was also a champion shotputter and discus thrower. Off the field, he's beginning to make his mark as a singer and has cut several successful records."
