1959 Profile: Cliff Livingston

Linebacker
No. 89
UCLA
"A handy man to have around, Livingston's speed and jarring tackling helped the Giants at many positions in 1956. Normally a defensive end, he also filled in at linebacker, doing a better than creditable job. Eager and very fast, he makes more than his share of great plays in a season.
Signed as a free agent, Livingston's hometown is Montebello, California."

-1957 Jay Publishing

"Cliff Livingston, signed as a free agent, has been with the Giants four seasons. Fast and aggressive, he is a key member of the specialist units the Giants use for and against kick-offs, punts, field goals and extra points. He is also a valuable defensive spare, who can play end, linebacker or on the corner.
A native Californian, Cliff starred for U.C.L.A."

-1957 New York Giants Official Program (Yankee Stadium)

"Cliff was first spotted playing for the Fort Ord Army club and came to the Giants in 1954. Defense is his forte, playing end or linebacker. His brother Howie also was a Giant.
Cliff lives in Montebello, California."

-Pro Football Handbook 1959

"For the first time in his six years with the Giants, Cliff Livingston (89) is playing regularly. He has been starting at left linebacker on the defensive platoon. Up to this season, Cliff was a valuable jack-of-all-trades who filled in anywhere he was needed on the defensive unit and was a key member of the special unit platoons.
Like his brother, Howie, a Giant end of the past, Cliff attended U.C.L.A."

-1959 New York Giants Official Program (Yankee Stadium, November 1)

"Obtained by the Giants as a free agent in 1954 after playing service ball for Fort Ord, Cliff has proven a valuable utility man with New York. In addition to working on the kickoff and punting return units, the 6-3, 215-pound Californian can also take a whirl at defensive end or linebacker. It was at the latter position that Livingston made his greatest impression on the Colts, nailing Alan Ameche for a fourth-down loss on the Giants' five in the 1958 title game."

-1959 Baltimore Colts Official Program (Memorial Stadium, NFL Championship Game)
