1959 Profiles: Lindon Crow, Dick Lynch and Bill Stits

"Lindon was the Cardinals' second-round draft choice this year. He was one of the nation's outstanding stars on both offense and defense last year at USC. In three years at USC, Lindon carried the ball 149 times for 666 yards, an average of 4.5 yards. Last year he captained the team.
At Corcoran High in Corcoran, California, his home town, Lin starred in football, basketball, track and baseball."

Fast, rugged and knowing, he has turned in a solid job as left corner man in the secondary defense. The league-leading pass interceptor in 1956, the U.S.C. graduate has made some important steals for the Giants, notably the end zone grab that helped beat the Browns a few weeks back."

"Lindon Crow was drafted No. 2 by the Cardinals for 1955. He led the NFL in pass receptions in 1956 with 11. Crow was traded to the Giants with Pat Summerall for Dick Nolan and Bobby Joe Conrad for '58.
He was an all-around star in high school in Corcoran, California. At USC he played 60 minutes and scored three touchdowns against California. Crow was a co-captain and rated the nation's No. 1 defensive back. He played in two Rose Bowls and in the Senior Bowl and was a 10-second man.
Born in Denison, Texas, April 4, 1933, he's part Indian. He married Maureen McMasters, his USC sweetheart. They have two children, Wendy and Lindon, Jr."

DICK LYNCH

Notre Dame
Dick comes to the Giants from the Washington Redskins. An All-American halfback at Notre Dame, he scored the winning touchdown that ended Oklahoma's 47-game winning streak. Dick played in both the North-South and College All-Star Games.

"This is Bill's first season in the NFL. He starred for UCLA as an outstanding two-way player. Stits played more minutes in the past two seasons than any other Bruin player.
In 1953, he carried the ball 41 times for 291 yards, a 7.1-yard average. Defensively, he rated with the best in the college game. He picked off eight enemy passes during the 1952 season while returning them 235 yards, just ten short of the NCAA record."

"After playing the 1954 season on defense, Bill won a chance to show his stuff as a ball carrier and did a fine job. Swift and rugged, he can slice through a line and scat like the wind in the open. In college, Bill won All-American honors for his airtight pass defending."
