1964 Profile: Harry Wright

Offensive Backfield Coach
"Wright, the newest member of the Giant faculty, was the head coach at Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy for the past six seasons. He replaces Kyle Rote, who resigned to concentrate on radio and TV work. Harry is 44 and lives in Great Neck.
He played quarterback, then shifted to guard under Coach Frank Leahy at Notre Dame during his college career in 1940-41-42. Following four years as a marine during the war, Wright began coaching at Aquinas Institute at Rochester, then moved to the U. of Portland. Before taking over at Kings Point, Harry served as offensive coach at Georgia from 1951 through 1957."

"The new pilot aboard the Giant assistant patrol is Harry Wright, a former Notre Dame quarterback who was switched to guard when Frank Leahy was the brightest satellite above the Golden Dome.
Now 44, Harry comes off a head coaching job at Kings Point, a minor school in the matter of grid prestige. He was also offensive boss at Georgia and served as athletic director of the U. of Portland.
Allie Sherman appreciates his forward approach to point production and doesn't feel his lack of pro experience will handicap him as the backfield tutor replacement for Kyle Rote, lost to the vast world of radio and TV."
