1972 Profile: Randy Johnson

Quarterback
No. 11
Texas A&I
"He played part-time behind Fran Tarkenton last season and threw only 75 passes, completing 41 for a 55.4 percentage, and had only three intercepted.
Johnson was impressive in the Giants' final game of the year when he completed 30 of 47 passes for 372 yards against the Eagles. Three of the completions were for touchdowns, but the Giants lost 41-28 and scores like that may become familiar to Randy in 1972 if his namesake Ron isn't available in the New York backfield to 'freeze' the defense while Randy sets to pass.
Randy was for a time the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons before being replaced by Bob Berry."

-John Devaney, The Complete Handbook of Pro Football, 1972 Edition

"Randy quarterbacked the Giants in the last game of 1971, December 19 against the Eagles. He completed 30 of 47 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. His 372 yards were the highest total of any one game in the NFC last season.
Randy's wife was captain of the Texas A&I cheerleaders."
